Our House

I Am Here respite care house is set in a tranquil location down a leafy laneway in the quiet suburb of Elermore Vale, just 15 minutes' drive from Newcastle CBD.

Blackbutt Reserve and the John Hunter Hospital are close by, with major shopping centres, Lake Macquarie, the region's beautiful beaches and other scenic attractions all within easy travelling distance.

Our modern, comfortable house is designed to help guests relax and unwind. It has seven bedrooms, two large modern fully equipped bathrooms, communal dining and a generous common area with recliners and a large plasma screen television.

Each guest bedroom also has a television for in-room comfort. Netflix offers a broad choice of viewing to suit every taste and wireless internet means instant online access for guests' mobile devices.

The house is surrounded by gardens that are in the process of being transformed into a Sensory Garden with funds provided by the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, The Lions Club of Elermore Vale, Port of Newcastle and Newcastle City Council. The gardens are designed to engage, stimulate and soothe the senses, creating a special area that allows guests to safely experience and immerse themselves in the outdoors.

I Am Here respite house is fully staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team of support workers, many of whom are caring local residents. Our housekeeper plans the tasty, nutritious daily menu to suit each guest's requirements. All food is prepared fresh and, where possible, sourced from local produce markets.

We have our own safe, reliable transport with experienced drivers who know our area intimately.

Lifestyle and Support

No one likes being bored.

That's why a stay at I Am Here has a strong focus on developing a meaningful lifestyle.

With constant support from our team of caring disability professionals, guests are encouraged to take part in daily activities and outings that are engaging, rewarding and, most importantly, a lot of fun. Tailored to individual needs, these activities help them to build a sense of independence and community involvement away from their usual family unit.

Our support includes helping guests to set and achieve personal milestones because we know that even the smallest success can have a profound effect on confidence and wellbeing.

Guests are also encouraged to develop and maintain their independent living skills such as personal hygiene, dressing, cooking and other household tasks according to their individual abilities.
